Often when I paint I don’t have a map. With this series that is particularly true because the process of making them is one of adding and subtracting rather than only adding layers of paint. A color is laid down on the surface, the raffia is taped down to preserve some of the previous layer. Another layer of paint is added, and then the raffia layer is taken away. Working this way means that I have next to no idea of the end result, and often add and subtract more layers until I am happy with the result.
