the woman behind the art

MEET DIANE

ABOUT ME

It was my mom who got me my first set of watercolors and sent me to summer camps that included painting and pottery. I have always loved making stuff, even as a little kid. My early career was in scenic design for theatre, film, televiion, and theme parks,. I got to design some very big things and watch them being built.

After my daughter was born, I consulted with clients on a variety of interior spaces. I also turned to teaching in early childhood education. As my daughter grew up and retirement drew near, I decided to pick up my paint brushes, and make stuff again. So almost 10 years later I have the body of work you see on these pages.

Even though the process of making almost anything can be frustrating, it’s important to trust yourself and keep going.

For me, making abstract art mirrors the uncertainty and adventure of living — unpredictable and always moving forward.

BACKGROUND

I received my BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Denver, and went on to earn an MFA in Scenic Design from New York University Tisch School of the Arts.  That foundation gave me a wonderful career in design. I became an associate designer on the world tour of Phantom of the Opera, a handful of Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway productions. My design journey also included themed attractions, television, film, and interior design.
